Jozef Bobula

About Jozef

Originally from Prievidza, Slovakia (formerly Czechoslovakia) Jozef Bobula was 20 years old when he picked up a bass and taught himself to play.

In the summer of 1996, Jozef was invited to participate in the Pink Jazz Festival in Ibbenburen, Germany. Three years later, he moved to the United States and enrolled Texas Wesleyan University. While there, Jozef didn’t waste a moment outside the classroom: studio work, restaurant gigs, weddings, musicals, concerts, and even large-scale events including the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City were standard performances on his roster.

In 2001, Bobula joined the nationally-recognized Christian pop/rock group “Destination Known” with whom he went on to record three albums, touring with the band for seven years.

In April 2003, he received the Outstanding Performance Award at the UNT Addison Jazz Festival. Following undergrad, Jozef went on to the University of Texas at Arlington, from which he earned a Master of Arts in Music Performance in 2007. Shortly thereafter, he packed up and moved to Las Vegas.

Almost upon arriving in the Entertainment Capital of the World, Jozef landed on stage, first with Central Christian Church where he played multiple weekend services regularly for the congregation of 30,000 strong over the next three years. Working with prominent Strip lounge bands including Fuse and the Patty Janura Band also kept him busy for several years, but not too busy to create the Jozef Bobula Trio in 2008, which he still leads regularly at corporate events of all shapes and sizes. The Jozef Bobula Trio appeared as part of the Jazz in the Cafe Series at the Las Vegas Springs Preserve, and at events for prominent corporate clients including Samsung at CES, and Doosan at CONEXPO.

Jozef has also performed in Las Vegas with Pop Evolution, John Davidson, Zowie Bowie, Foreigner’s Domenick Allen, Kelly Clinton & Clint Holmes, crooner Brian Evans, Backbeat Village, and for multiple celebrity benefits, including the Las Vegas Celebrates the Music of Michael Jackson tribute in 2009. Jozef has performed in Las Vegas at the Pearl at the Palms, the Stirling Club, Wynn, the Venetian, Bellagio, Bally’s, Margaritaville, Green Valley Ranch, Sam Boyd Stadium, the Tropicana, and many more.

Jozef was the first musician cast in Pin Up, Starring Clair Sinclair at the Stratosphere, and he has performed nightly with the Pin Up players since the show’s opening, never missing a show. In 2014, he was rewarded for his performance skills and consistency with a promotion to Musical Director. Prior to Pin Up, Jozef also performed with Legends in Concert at Harrah’s Las Vegas, and at the Foxwoods Resort & Casino in Connecticut. Jozef continues to often sit in with The Australian Bee Gees Show at Excalibur as well, as he has since 2011.

Since 2013, Jozef has been featured nightly as an original member (and as of September 2014, Musical Director) of the critically-acclaimed six-piece band that plays live onstage behind Playboy Playmate of the Year 2011 Clair Sinclair in Pin Up, at the Stratosphere Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

Jozef’s inspirations include Victor Wooten (with whom he has had the privilege to study on more than one occasion), John Pattituci, Pink Floyd, and the Jazz Greats.

Jozef extends his unending gratitude to Wes & Abby Griffin, Tim Ishii and Lou Carfa, his dear family back home in Slovakia (mother Terezia, sister Zuzana, nephew Livio, and father Milan), and to his beautiful wife, Heather.
