Jozef Bobula snaps, he crackles, he POPS across the stage like a man possessed. And he is possessed—by the heart of the bass.

Originally from Prievidza, Slovakia, Jozef has earned every lick his six strings can crank out. At 20 years old, on his way to a degree in engineering, he realized one day that he was on a path to drudgery for the rest of his life. Deliberately stepping off that path, he picked up a bass after working his "day gig" in a Slovakian coal mine, and taught himself to play. With that, his life was changed forever.

Six months later, in the summer of 1996, the opportunity arose to participate in the Pink Jazz Festival in Ibbenburen, Germany. It was there that Jozef met the two people who were to become dear friends as well as the most influential figures in his life: Tim Ishii and Lou Carfa. When he was invited to play in the Pink Festival again the following year—this time in Dallas and Los Angeles--Jozef began to consider studying music in the United States. Two years later, with the help of Ishii and Carfa, he was enrolled at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth. While at Wesleyan, Jozef didn’t waste a moment outside the classroom: studio work, restaurant gigs, weddings, musicals, concerts, and even large-scale events including the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, were standard fare.

In 2001, Jozef joined the nationally-recognized Christian pop/rock group "Destination Known" with whom he went on to record three albums. In April 2003, he received the Outstanding Performance Award at the UNT Addison Jazz Festival. Also in 2003, he released his debut solo album "Letters from the Virtual Universe". Jozef wasn’t ready to head back to Slovakia after undergrad, however, so onward he went to the University of Texas at Arlington, from which he earned a Master of Arts in Music Performance in 2007. Shortly thereafter, the horizon called, so he packed up and headed west to Las Vegas, where life took off like a shot...

Almost upon arriving in the Entertainment Capital of the World, Jozef connected with Central Christian Church and began playing services regularly for the congregation of 30,000 strong, as well as eventually adding satellite campuses and online services to the rotation. Networking and auditioning for Cirque Du Soleil and prominent Strip lounge bands kept him busy, but not too busy to meet and fall in love with Heather Burdette--herself well-ensconced in the Las Vegas entertainment world. They married in late spring, 2008.

In 2008, Jozef also put together a Jazz Trio for events, and began booking weddings and corporate gigs almost immediately, including becoming part of the Jazz in the Cafe Series at the Las Vegas Valley Water District's Springs Preserve. Expanding his event viability, Jozef added singer Lisa Smith of Dangerous Curves and Shades of Sinatra to work with the Trio or with Jozef alone. Since arriving in Las Vegas, Jozef has also performed with Zowie Bowie, Foreigner's Domenick Allen, crooner Brian Evans, Kelly Clinton & Clint Holmes, John Davidson, emerging Christian artist Aaron Stewart, the Marty Mahoney Band, Backbeat Village US, and for multiple celebrity benefits, including Las Vegas Celebrates the Music of Michael Jackson. Jozef has performed in Las Vegas in the Pearl at the Palms, the Stirling Club, Wynn, the Venetian, Bellagio, Bally's, Margaritaville, Green Valley Ranch, Sam Boyd Stadium, the Tropicana, and many more...

On April 5, 2010, Jozef had the honor of joining one of the hottest lounge bands on the Strip when he stepped onstage with FUSE in the Indigo Lounge at Bally's. The move proved to be quite a challenge, as he learned more than 90 songs prior to his debut with the band, and continued picking up tunes until he had the full repertoire for the group. With smokin' hot front singers Cody Gay & Candace Martin and unique arrangements (including 3- or 4-part harmonies) for some of music's most party-inspiring anthems from the present thru the last four decades, FUSE regularly rocks Bally's, Bellagio's Fontana Room, Margaritaville, and large-scale corporate events. Looks like this bassman just landed a sweet gig...

Jozef considers himself to be incredibly lucky, living his dream and coming so far from his job in the Slovakian coal mine so long ago.  There are more dreams to be checked off of Jozef’s Wish List, so clearly the adventure continues...

Jozef’s musical inspirations include Victor Wooten (with whom he has had the privilege to study on more than one occasion), John Pattituci, Pink Floyd, and all the Jazz Greats. Jozef extends his unending gratitude to Wes & Abby Griffin, Tim Ishii and Lou Carfa, his dear family back home in Slovakia (mother Terezia, sister Zuzana, nephew Livio, and father Milan), and to his beautiful wife, Heather.
